Avian
These pictures were clicked at the skyline above the Mulla Mutha river in Pune. The one above was a silhouetted eagle simply gliding across.
The two images above show the typical formation that birds take up while flying. For the ignorant, there is a scientific principle behind this formation. Aerodynamics comes into play here. The bird in the front experiences maximum drag and each bird takes turns to be the leader. This prevents any single bird from getting tired. Also this formation helps the birds at the back glide without too much effort. Think again before calling someone bird brained.

Dot
Dot is the name of my pet. She is 13. I couldn't have asked for a better or more obedient pet. And ya... she's photogenic. It's the little things about her that I really love - like the way she sits obediently by the kitchen door while mom fixes her some food, or the way she eats anything you give her without making a fuss.
This is her with my glasses. It's surprising that she waits patiently until I remove them from her face myself. Most dogs can't sit in one place for long, leave alone letting someone make them wear spectacles.Pentax K110D

The rains are here!
The rains are finally here. I'm sick of the summer heat. Finally its time for some cool weather and relaxed mornings. Was in the balcony when I clicked this snap. Slowed down the shutter speed to give the picture a nice drag effect. The sardarji looked like he was in a hurry and didn't want to get wet.
Some more people ride their vehicles in the rain. All wearing caps. A passerby looks on. Monsoon - A Time for power fluctuations and greenery.

Empress garden
Empress garden is an old garden that is located opposite the race course in Pune. It has a variety of plants and flowers and most importantly - fresh air which has become a rarity these days. I pay the Rs. 5/- entrance + Rs. 2/- for the parking. Nothing comes free these days. As I walk in I notice everyone staring at me because I have this relatively large camera bag straddled on my back. I walk on.
The above picture was clicked close to the entrance. There was water flowing between two trunks of trees and they looked nice enough for a quick snap. There were some children nearby watching me as I clicked this one. I got weird looks. Looks that said why is this moron clicking the bark of a tree. I move on.
This one (its called a white serpent flower or something like that) was near the water flow. There was a couple getting cozy near by and the guy gives me a dirty look like I'm invading. It's a good thing I didn't click the girl. Else writing this would have been a painful process.
This was a simple plant in that area. What I liked about it was the way the sun was bouncing of its surface. The reddish leaf at the bottom corner added depth. Click.
This plant wasn' t as close as it appears. I had to zoom in all the way to get this one to be a decent picture. The plant was a little dried up but it looked pretty.
In the later pictures I have close ups of the pink flowers visible here. The lines of the partial bark flow in nicely into the picture. Some pictures look better after you view them on your computer.
Good looking light orange flowers that were just begging to be clicked. I obliged. There are a lot of flower pictures in this post but this is a garden and thats what you get.
Walking further down the eastern side of the garden were these relatively light pink colored flowers. They are in fact so lightly colored they give you the impression that the color has faded away because of the sun.
This was in the restricted part of the garden. I climbed a small ledge near the fence and clicked this one. The colors and textures in this one look great.
This is another one for which people stared at me as I clicked. It had a cool brown color to it. I couldn't resist. Click
This one is the firefly flower. It looks like this yellow blaze through a pink background. The green leaves add depth to the picture.
This metal cart seems like it has been lying unattended and unused for days maybe years. It just had to be clicked.
Some more flowers. These were smaller in size than the rest. They were right at the entrance of the garden. I don't know what they are called.
There was this kid. The one in the light orange shirt. Running across and filling water in this little plastic bottle and watering plants nearby. The girl on the left watches him as he does so.
These trees looked really cool. I liked their density. Almost as if they were a group of friends.
Lots of green around. Then there was some red. I decide to click them both. There was a dog nearby while I clicked this flower. He didn't seem too friendly. I moved on.
These pink flowers were near the play area where most of the children were. Lots of noise around. These flowers simply looked awesome in the sunlight.
Another view of the pink flowers. This time I try to fit in more flowers. They look good together.
The same pink flowers. This time the composition seemed better. I would have preferred a sharper focus on the flower in the front though.

Friends who else

These are my friends - From L to R - Amit, Tanmay (the partial head), and thats me on the right. We were in a cheerful mood clicking snaps by the river near Tanmay's house. Kshiteej isn't visible in the picture. He comes in below.
From L to R - Amit (or Mandy as everyone calls him), Tanmay and Kshiteej. Nice snap with good natural colors and exposure with the just the right amount of light. The river in the background gives a nice feel to the picture.
This last one is my favorite. A joke is cracked. Natural smiles aplenty. Just the right mood. Click

Blossom

They say that flowers make excellent objects for photography. And guess what - they do. The colors, texture and appearance catches any person's eye. Their refreshing appearance is a visual treat and pure eye candy. Here I make an attempt at getting that eye candy and beauty past the shutter of my camera. The image above was clicked as I was traveling on my bike and happened to be carrying my camera with me. I stopped my bike, climbed on the wall where these flowers were within reach and clicked a few snaps.
The picture above was taken from the same place as mentioned earlier. This one has a few white flowers as well which gives the picture a nice look. Although the white flower is a bit out of focus the picture still looks pretty.
This third picture was clicked from Tanmay's (my cousin) garden. Its a small garden with a few flowers growing and this one caught my eye immediately. I wasn't very happy with the composition but like this picture nonetheless. None of the pictures have been enhanced or optimized in any way.

Bird of prey

I got up in the morning to see if I could get some nice sunrise shots but ended up snapping these birds instead. The picture on top is of a silhouetted crow. The reason I clicked him was because every time I went to click any of the others they refused to stay put. This one seemed to be the only one ready to be clicked by an amateur. The picture gives you this nice peaceful feeling.
The picture below was cropped heavily (because I don't own a zoom lens yet). Had to bump up the shutter speed to get a steady shot. The bone (or something that looks like a bone) in the birds mouth is a bonus.
Clicking birds is no easy task. After multiple tries I managed to get just these two pictures that were decent enough to post.

Trial run

Amit and Tanmay show up at my house and they are eager to have a look at the new camera. No power at my place so we find a spot where there is some light. Amit smiles as the traffic whizzes past him in the background. Click

A beginning

This is the first snap that I clicked with my new DSLR. Ironically, there was a power failure at home and I was out of options. It reminds of this story I had in school.
